The long-gestating movie based on the popular 1980’s TV series is finally making its way to the silver screen. The A-Team have finally been assembled and filming begins in Vancouver in November.
You remember this show, 4 Vietnam soldiers each with their own specialty are framed for a crime they didn’t commit, then go underground in L.A. helping out people using their awesome skills of building stuff and shooting guns that never kill anyone all while driving around in a black and red van. To kids, this was the pinnacle of action-adventure television and now its coming back for a whole new generation. So, Attention! Here is your brand-new A-Team:
Liam Neeson is Col. John “Hannibal” Smith (Originally played by the late George Peppard):
This amazing actor has been in everything from The Phantom Menace to Schindler’s List to Batman Begins to Darkman. A better choice to lead the new team, we cannot imagine.
Bradley Cooper is Templeton “Faceman” Peck (Originally played by Dirk Benedict):
Cooper’s star has been slowly rising since his role on Alias, and with hits like The Hangover and every other romantic comedy, we hope to see him bring charm to the role.
Quinton “Rampage” Jackson is Sgt. Bosco “B.A.” Baracus (Originally played by the one and only Mr. T):
Anyone more famous as an actor like Ice Cube or The Rock probably would have made this role too predictable. Casting a relative unknown (unless you watch UFC) means more danger and mystery from the impossible-to-cast role. Mr. T is one of a kind, but Rampage has the look down, but does he have the gold chains?
Sharlto Copleyis Captain H.M. “Howlin’ Mad” Murdock (Originally played by Dwight Schutlz):
The crazy member of the team that always had to be extracted from the mental hospital he was in to go on missions is to be played by a South African newcomer. Copley wowed alot of people with his performance in this Summer’s District 9, so seeing him as the crazy guy isn’t too much of a stretch from what he did there.
Other than having Jessica Biel in the cast (she’s playing the army general chasing the A-Team) not much else is known about the story, other than you can tell this is going to be a big Summer blockbuster and they are going down the “Casino Royale” route instead of making it a comedic romp. But seeing as this first image of the van has surfaced online, it seems they will be keeping in as many key elements as they can.
Our only skepticism is in the director, Joe Carnahan, who made the flat Smokin’ Aces. Lets hope this time he has it all figured out and gives us something deserving of one of the greatest TV shows of the 80’s!
The A-Team comes to Hong Kong theatres in June 2010.

A movie that mixes our 3 favourite things: bikinis, swords and zombies!
At Neonpunch.com it’s our responsibility, no…our duty, to report on movies like this! Chanbara Beauty is based on the video game where literally the concept is a cowboy hat wearing hottie with swords slashes her way through zombie hordes, and now its on DVD.
Zombies are swept aside as sexy samurai girls glow with red and blue elemental energy, hurl fireballs or fling tornados with magic swords. Sexy, action packed and oodles more fun than those po-faced Resident Evil movies.
See more at the official site. You can buy the DVD now at HMV for HK$270.
The lowdown with the hip Hong Kong e-Tailer and gadget distributor.
You might know about Hong Kong e-retailer 100milligrams.com, but you’ve definitely seen the tech products that parent company Street Value distribute all over Hong Kong. We had a chance to catch up with Managing Director Justin Sandery for the first installment of our newest weekly feature: 5 Question Punch-Out – fast and furious questions about 100milligrams.com and Justin’s Hong Kong gadget life:
What is 100milligrams.com?
100milligrams is HK’s only on-line store for the coolest new fashion and lifestyle youth consumer electronics brands including Skullcandy, Zumreed, X-mini and many more.
How did you start it up and why
As a marketing/distribution company we wanted to understand consumers and global trends better and so we decided to create a retail environment to showcase our great brands. We thought about a physical shop but the rents are so high in HK we decided to go online first and give the HK consumers a fun retail space for browsing and purchasing our exclusive brands.
We started by asking a friend to build our first site on the cheap. We went live in a couple of months with a handful of products. As we had no experience online, nothing worked and the graphics were ugly. It was very amateur but we learned very quickly and 18 months later things are rockin’ along.
What is your best selling product in Hong Kong?
X-mini II – these babies rock.
What are some of the gadgets you use daily?
New X-mini Max II Portable Speaker: Phenomenal sound, 12hours battery life.
Skullcandy: New FMJ (yellow) best sounding and looking iPhone earphone on the market.
Stylophone Beatbox: Rockin beats and record loop sampler makes me feel musically gifted and everyone around me irritated.
iPhone: I hate mine, maybe if I get a Blackberry for Christmas that might be my favourite.
Where do you personally shop for gadgets and gear in HK?
DG lifestyle store, Ultimate, JC shop
These shops have sophistication and quality products so they stand out over the plethora of cheap electronics shops in HK. A gadget has to perform its function intuitively without complicating the task and the simpler it makes the task the better.
