When Google said there would be a ton of Android phones out before the end of 2009, they meant it. Acer, famous for laptops and Windows Mobile smartphones, have jumped into the Android ring with the Acer Liquid.

Sleek and sexy like you would expect from a smartphone made in 2009, the Liquid looks as good as the models that presented them at yesterday’s launch event in Hong Kong. If you know Android, you’ll know it’s got all the same fixings on the new Donut 1.6 system with its 5 mexgapixel camera, and the ability to shoot HD video makes this a sweet phone for 1O1O customers.

Its stylish white casing kind of makes it look like it comes in its own protective case, but that is the entire phone! It’s lightweight and as responsive as most of the Android phones we’ve played with. The Acer Liquid is available exclusively at 1O1O for HK$3,380 for the handset straight up with no contract.

More from CSL:

Building on the processing and graphical capabilities of Snapdragon and WVGA resolution, the Acer Liquid is ideal for multimedia entertainment and enjoying location-based applications. As of today, it is available exclusively through 1O1O Centre in Hong Kong.

At the same time, 1O1O’s MyNet meets the demand for Web 2.0 personalised business and entertainment web experiences, and targets customers of different needs. Busy professionals and executives get a personalised interface for fast access to information. Likewise, the comprehensive selection of rich applications and Internet content will appeal to customers who like to keep entertainment and news at their fingertips. All this now available for 1O1O customers.

MyNet provides a customised interface in three parts, presented in Tab format to allow customers to rapidly switch between them:

  • MyNet Home, the defaulted front page for 1O1O users, consists of a list of customisable websites and Internet content.
  • The easy-to-access App Store contains 1O1O value-added services and products, such as infotainment content and services.
  • The Customer Service section allows access to personal profile settings usage and other user information.

This innovative, all-in-one, mobile Internet platform is rendered beautifully by Acer Liquid. The 768 MHz Qualcomm 8250 Snapdragon CPU will ensure that MyNet users enjoy the smoothest possible Internet-surfing experience. In addition, the 3.5-inch high-resolution Wide WVGA screen gives a fuller and crisper view of Internet content and the rich user-interface of MyNet. The Android operating system, Donut, is the first version of Android that supports WVGA resolution. Also, the HSDPA7.2 Mbps feature coupled with 1O1O Next GTM the high performance mobile broadband network, will endow users of this phone with unbeatable Internet connection and surfing speeds.

The Acer Liquid will also appeal to those who demand impeccable style aesthetics from their electronic devices. Slim – only 12.5 mm thick – sleek and ultra modern, the phone comes with LED indicators on the top and an embedded 5 mega-pixel camera. To complement the high-quality camera, Acer has designed a proprietary camera user interface, increasing the number of user options.

User experience is central to this phone and customers will benefit from the new Android Market Place user interface, which will allow easier browsing through the applications library, and a new Donut search function that enables search across multiple sources. Acer also improved the multitasking and task-switching functionality of Android by adding real-time screenshots of each open application.

MyNet: A Personalised Internet Experience

MyNet personalises users’ Internet experiences, centralising their favourite content and websites. All icons and information in App Store are automatically arranged according to users’ usage frequency. Furthermore, the blocked website list can also be customised according to user preferences. MyNet auto sorts favourite and highest hit-rate websites. Users can also bookmark their favourite websites.

The new interface has been designed with user experience in mind. Now, instead of a plain text portal, 1O1O customers are treated to more icons, photos and pictures. The always-on toolbar allows users to switch between MyNet, App Store and Customer Service with one click. It also enables users to easily carry out actions more akin to a PC user-experience than a mobile.

MyNet also enables convenient sharing of content. The always-on toolbar includes an SMS share function that allows users to send websites to their friends locally and overseas. For extra convenience, users will be notified via pop up when they attempt to access websites outside the MyNet portal. This helps customers avoid inadvertently running up extra charges. Similarly, a roaming notification will pop up when the user attempts to access MyNet while roaming.

With the device agnostic feature, users don’t have to worry about losing their personalised interfaces when changing phones. Breaking through the limitations between different handset models, the settings of the MyNet platform are transferrable and applicable to most devices on the market.

One Response to “Acer Launches its Liquid Android Smartphone Exclusively with 1O1O in Hong Kong”

  1. They can keep coming out with Android phones but they need to do something about the apps. They are so amateur I can’t believe the Smartphone post that more Android apps are downloaded over iPhone in HK.
