As readers well know, we’ve been to a few mobile phone launches, and we just love the names that companies give their phones.

Normally it’s a cool name like “incredible,” “desire” or something cute like “Lollipop” and “Cookie.” Rarely do we see a phone that is given an antonym for its name but LG has decided to name its first NOVA screen mobile phone the Optimus “Black.” Now we know that it’s going for a name that denotes cool, sexy and sleek and black certain has all those connotations over “white” and “bright.”

However for us, our first thought for a name would be “wannabe,” because the LG Optimus Black looks a lot like the first generation iPhone. But hey we understand and we’re sure Apple does as well.

It was about a year ago that HTC Hong Kong released the Wildfire now a year later the Taiwanese mobile phone makers comes back with a new and improved little machine and slaps the letter “S” on the end. The Wildfire S is HTC’s entry level Android phone and is competitively priced at HK$2,498.

This new HTC device sports a 600Mhz CPU with 3.2-inch HVGA touch screen, 320 x 480 resolution display (which is doubles the resolution offered by HTC Wildfire). It also comes with a 5-megapixel auto focus camera, LED flash, Face detection, Self-portrait capability, built-in photo effects and Geotagging.

Granted we only spent an hour with it, and the final ROM build was not yet finalized we had enough time to give some thoughts on the device and to give you some idea whether or not this will be your next Android device.

Huawei has been the supplying “No Frills” handsets to mobile phone providers for a few years now and in the last six months has decided to step out of the shadows and into the limelight and start selling their phones under their own name. Making a big splash Huawei recently launched the IDEOS X5 a Android 2.2 smartphone targeting the mid-range handset market.

The X5 features 3.8” WVGA (480 x 800 pixels) TFT capacitive multi-touch screen with easy-to-use SWYPE input. The phone sports a 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash. The X5 also supports Geo-tagging and HD video recording at 720p.

HTC is going to get you one way or the other – either with their army of Android smartphones or in what is no doubt the first in an array of tablet devices to compete with the iPad.

Our sources said that HTC would deliver a tablet in early 2011, so we guess May is close enough for the new 7″ Gingerbread Android tablet the HTC Flyer.

Does it fly? Not on the proper Android tablet OS it doesn’t but HTC has loaded it up with HTC Sense which brings better tablet functions as well as HTC Scribe which allows a pen to be used naturally and easily.

One thing we love: built-in synchronization with Evernote!
