Relive the classic anime every day from your desktop.
Be the biggest hero this Christmas by giving someone a pre-order coupon for this amazing collectible from the anime classic, Akira. Medicom has a 1/6 scale Kaneda figure which now has an amazing light-up bike. Following Toysrevil’s great translations skills:
Articulated Front and Back Wheel (turnable)
Die-cast internal frame with front suspension plated.
Removable front chasis
Model includes audio-sound, via the accelerator (travelling sound), the brake (moving sound). External speaker connectability.
Built-in LED lights.
This stuff ships in March 2010, but you can pre-order it now from Blister Japan so you have a receipt to give for Christmas. Yes, you’ll hate this, but each piece is sold separately: the bike is 39,900円 (HK$3,500) and the Kaneda Shotaro figure is 14,900円 (HK$1,300), so the total is around HK$5,000 plus shipping, unless you drop by the collectibles shops in Mong Kok and get in line.
Akira is also on Blu-ray now if you want something under the tree for December 25th:
James Cameron merges action figures with Augmented Reality.
The big movie coming to Hong Kong this Christmas is James Cameron’s Avatar. A sci-fi epic about a human soldier (Sam Worthington from Terminator: Salvation) infiltrating the alien race called the Na’vi, it’s about their battle for survival (trailer below) and is one amazing show. One of the cooler set pieces is this Amp Suit, what looks to be an upscaled version of the Aliens Power Loader where the human characters get in and ride this around fighting blue aliens – the ultimate sci-fi!
Mattel Toys is releasing an Amp Suit toy in time for Christmas and what sets it apart from other robot toys is that it has the iTag system built in, which means it works with your computer to bring real-life 3D images to your computer screen. If you haven’t seen this in action before, it’s kind of hard to explain so have a watch and get ready to head down to Toys R Us afterwards with about HK$200 to avail of your own:
You saw this Total Immersion technology this Summer on movies like Star Trek and Transformers, but this is taking it to the next level with actual toys. Makes sense really since we usually have tons of robots and superheroes decorating our computers to begin with! Learn more at the official site AvatarItag.com – remember you also need a webcam to make it work!
If this version of the Amp Suit is too “kiddie” for you, Sideshow Toys has a limited edition HK$9,350 (US$1,199) version that looks amazing, but the downside is that it doesn’t move and it doesn’t interact with your computer.
Why so serious when this figure looks so damn amazing!
Hot Toys amazing Movie Masterpiece Joker 1/6 scale figure based on Heath Ledger from The Dark Knight is now available in Hong Kong and here is a quick video they put out to showcase the launch at their Mong Kok store at the CTMA Centre.
All you tadpole-loving Star Wars fans out there can rest assured that your amphibious little padawan pets will grow up to be most powerful Jedi frogs around. Thanks to the Star Wars Science toy series by Uncle Milton, Dagobah (Master Yoda’s planet of exile) now serves as a miniature force-filled habitat for your tadpoles, complete with the Jedi master himself as host. Joking about this product, we are not!
The Dagobah Frog Habitat comes with a swamp theme, hideaway hut, see-through lid, feeding hatch, learning guide, and, of course, a Yoda figurine (light sabers not included). The tadpoles aren’t shipped to you until a mail-in form has been submitted, but you can be certain that only specimens with the highest possible midi-chlorian counts are chosen.
Measuring 7 ¼” by 7 ¼” by 13 ½”, Yoda’s little world will run you about HK$280-320 (US$30-40), and it should prove to be an excellent training ground for your tadpoles to learn about the path to the Dark Side. Bringing balance to the force, however, is not necessarily guaranteed.
