Sony Saves the Earth with its Newest Eco-Friendly LCD TV
Sony’s beginning to save the environment with its 2009 line of TVs.

Going green doesn’t have to mean losing picture quality– that’s what Sony is saying with their annoucement of the latest Sony Bravia WE5. This TV is capable of the same full HD quality while saving up to 50% more energy than its predecessor.
Just how exactly does this TV save power consumption? Well, most of this is done through the world’s first Hot Cathode Fluorescent Lamp (HCFL) backlight. This backlight alone uses less than half of the enery used by other Sony TVs.
Other intelligent little features in this TV further saves you energy. Built within the TV is a heat-sensor, which can detect your body heat. Soon after it detects that no one is watching the TV, it automatically turns the picture off to save energy, but leaves the audio on so you can still hear the news. When it detects that no one’s been near the TV for a long time, it automatically goes into Standby mode to save even more energy.
Although a lot of this TV is focused on saving energy, it still delivers uncompromised picture quality. It features full 1080p HD resolution and boasts an amazing 100,000 to 1 contrast ratio. Powered by the Bravia Engine 3, images are now filtered, cleaned, and enhanced so you’ll always get the best possible picture quality. Also, the MotionFlow 100Hz technology increases the frame rate, so you’ll experience all the action during sports and fast-moving pictures.
The eco-friendly Bravia WE5 will be available starting this month. It comes in two sizes, 40″ and 46″, which will retail for HK$17,900 and HK$24,900 respectively. Also, customers purchasing the 46″ version will receive a free 20″ LCD TV and HK$1,000 worth of supermarket coupons, or if you want, simply HK$3,000 worth of supermarket coupons.
