Microsoft Hong Kong announced today the release of Office 2010 Public Beta for free download right here. So, now you have yourself the new Windows 7, and you’re going to want to make your Office suite of software look just as good. This preview will run on your PC until October 31, 2010 when Microsoft will ask you to fork over real money for the final release.

While Google Docs has a huge headstart, cloud computing hasn’t really taken Hong Kong by storm (yet), and so Microsoft still has good marketshare. If this new version of Office can give users all the new social media bells and whistles that cloud computing productivity suites have, then they could still be in the game at least until the Google Chrome OS comes out.

There are several new features in Office 2010, but the big one is Outlook Social Connector which brings communications history, business collaboration and social network feeds directly into Outlook, with support for Windows Live and SharePoint Server. This feature brings business and social networking to the work force. Does that mean we’re going to be even less productive? Let the boss decide.

Microsoft Hong Kong released its new operating system Windows 7 in Hong Kong this past Saturday 24th of October. To celebrate they held a special launch event at Times Square, Causeway Bay. Neonpunch was there front row centre to document the event and the fact that the sexy Ella Koon 官恩娜 was there to help promote the new operating system had nothing to do with our devoted attention to this operating system launch.

On hand to demonstrate the new operating system was the seven winners of the “Hong Kong Best Windows 7 Promoters” competition and Mr. Raymond Hung (Microsoft Hong Kong). The group showed a curious crowd of reporters and celebrity guest Ella Koon the unique features of Windows 7.

To help celebrate the event the software giant also held a special charity sale called “Windows 7 HK$377 Charity Offer Day” where 400 lucky people could buy the Windows 7 Ultimate Edition for the bargain price of HK$377 on a first-come, first-served basis. Plus, the first person in line also got an additional free limited Windows 7 Ultimate Edition autographed by Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft.

New Microsoft Windows Phones Coming to Market on Oct. 6

Friday. 4 September. 2009. 10:41 am
October 6, 2009

Microsoft tries it again and this time they mean business.

windowsmobile

Microsoft is going to be bringing over some new, exciting mobile phones to market at an event on October 6th. These new Microsoft smartphones (yes we know that’s a total oxymoron) are designed for different tastes, needs and price points, with and without keyboards, with and without touch screen and sounding like too many options already for the regular consumer.

These new phones will be rolled out into the world market this Fall and we’re keeping an eye on the Hong Kong release dates but judging from these preview screens it looks like they’ve gotten over the rude awakening they’ve got from Apple and Google and are now going to try and make something we, the consumers, can actually use.

Below is a video with an early build of Windows Mobile 6.5 on an Samsung Omnia II to give you a quick peek of some of the OS functions:

The Zune Rises from the Ashes Like a Hi-Definition Phoenix

Monday. 17 August. 2009. 9:55 am

Microsoft doesn’t call it a comeback as the Zune HD steps up to the plate!

zunehd

If you are screaming “WTF?!” right now, join the club. What happened to Microsoft’s “iPod Killer” the Zune and it’s newest incarnation: Zune HD?

First off, the overall appearance. The device seems to be like a combination of a Razr and a Sony X-series Walkman. It just has that long unwieldy look to it, like a TV remote control, yet it’s intriguing to say the least. Judging from the length, we’re a bit curious how comfortable it will be to use but time will tell. The device comes in two colors, silver and black.

The size is very similar to the Sony X-series Walkman with the Zune HD having a slightly taller screen. It’s also noticeably more compact compared to the iPhone being much less wide which can be good and bad. Although it can make it less cumbersome, less wide tends to lead to suffering from the smaller display and the device ends up thicker as a payoff. You have to shove those gears in somehow!

To unlock the device from prying eyes you’ll have to swipe upwards like a katana slash! After browsing for a bit, you can hit the nondescript ‘Home’ button (doesn’t everything have those?) at the bottom, differing from previous versions because it lacks joystick functionality.

The bottom of the device has a docking connection and the headphone jack but this seems like you’ll be plugging in your headphones and shoving the device upside down. Is there a specific reason for this?

The key thing about this device is that it supports 720p video software which can be purchased through Zune Marketplace software, which is available for download now. And of course you can search the internet with the “bestest” search engine ever: Bing.com. Naturally.

As of the writing of this article, the device is rumored to be released on September 8th. Our poor pocket books are going to be so demolished this Fall, with the 16GB costing HK$1,700 and the 32GB going for HK$2,300.
