The man who would be Bond, knows how to dress even when he’s not on Her Majesty’s Secret Service – but we must say he’s definitely kept one of her tailors!

We’ve assembled some of Craig’s better looks – always tailored, always one-step from looking like 007, always looking in control, focused and confident – some actors take their roles home with them, we’re happy that Craig decided on the wardrobe.

Daniel Craig burst onto the scene with Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Road to Perdition, Layer Cake and Munich before being selected to play 007 in the 2006 reboot of the James Bond franchise; with what we would call the best Bond movie of them all: Casino Royale! Hopefully the 43-year old can make up for the terrible Quantum of Solace with the next Bond film called Skyfall due out this Christmas.

Tomorrow, Mr. Rachel Weisz shows up in Hong Kong; after one of the worst movies of 2011 Cowboys and Aliens with possibly one of the best movies of 2011 – The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (read our review here).

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is the newest film from director David Fincher (Se7en, The Social Network) and while it’s not his most inventive works like Fight Club or The Game, it’s definitely one of his more gripping films.

We’re sure you’ve read ad nauseam of how its a remake of the Swedish original, based on the worldwide bestselling Millenium book series by Stieg Larsson – but this version has not only a Hollywood budget sheen, but great performances by Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara and of course the production values that only Fincher could engulf you with over its 158 minute running time.

As far as mysteries go – we’d hazard a guess this one was pretty straight forward to the point where if you are really judging it based on “who did it” you’re not looking deep enough.

The movie keeps its Swedish setting roots – but everyone speaks English and only Mara’s character – the tattooed, pierced, investigative hacker Lisabeth Salander speaks with a Scandinavian accent – which keeps it cold, somewhat alien and completely interesting.

If you’ve read the books or seen the original then some of the shocking and violent scenes won’t catch you off guard – but to those seeing this for the first time you will definitely be walking funny afterwards.

The movie breezes by its 2.5 hours run time, that you don’t even notice that Craig and Mara’s characters don’t even meet until 1.5 hours into the film. Until we actually read the book, we’ll always wonder how this story made an international best seller selling millions of copies around the world, but we can definitely see why this movie version will appeal to many. Tight pacing, interesting characters, great settings, amazing score, killer title sequence and one of the most interesting female protagonists since Trinity from The Matrix movies.

So our only real complaint is that the core mystery is pretty simple – but you’re not going for the “whodunnit” you’re going for the “whydunnit” – we’d even go so far as to call this an updated version of Roman Polanski’s Chinatown – for all it’s plot twists and evil family history.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo will have you thinking about it long after you’ve left the cinema – so make sure you book tickets ahead of it’s January 5th opening date here in Hong Kong. But remember the original Swedish title is Män som hatar kvinnor or Men Who Hate Women – when thinking this might be a good date movie.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (aka Sherlock Holmes 2) opens today in Hong Kong – and it’s probably a more fun sequel than Iron Man 2 was!

So to commemorate the opening of Robert Downey Jr.’s new movie we’ve put together this gallery of chameleon-like looks that RDJ has sported over recent years.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows opens today in Hong Kong.

We interviewed Jennifer Thym a while back, and its good to see that her newest short film – Bloodtraffick – is getting ready to be screened here in Hong Kong during Clockenflap 2011.

The Salty Horror Film Festival winning film was shot in Hong Kong and stars Grace Huang (pictured above) and looks to be a bloody fun, kick-ass vampire flick.

Ryan Gosling gets behind the driver’s seat for Drive – a movie we can only call an “art house heist film” – the trailer makes it look like a cross between Fast and Furious and Ocean’s 11 (so convincing that a lady is suing the movie studio for false advertising) but it’s more like Heat directed by Stanley Kubrick.

It’s scoring an amazing 92% fresh on RottenTomatoes.com right now and it’s finally coming out this week in Hong Kong. One of the stand-out things about the film besides the intense acting, the hardcore violence and hot-pink title sequence is definitely the soundtrack which we’ve embedded a few of the songs along with the trailer below:

The famous book series gets a David Fincher remake

One of the most popular adult book series in recent memory is the Millenium series by Stieg Larsson, and the first book in the series The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is coming to theatres on January 5th, 2012.

And while there is already a film series from Sweden based on the book, the director of Fight Club and The Social Network – David Fincher – has roped in James Bond Daniel Craig and the girl who dump Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network Rooney Mara – for a remake which promises to be “the feel bad movie of Christmas” – and if you’ve read the books or seen the originals that line isn’t far off the mark.

RDJ and Jude Law return for a second round in merry ol’ London.

The sequel to the wildly popular Guy Ritchie version of Sherlock Holmes is back with a sequel called Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (神探福爾摩斯: 詭影遊戲). Starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law as they reprise their roles as Holmes and Watson, this time with Noomi Rapace as the female lead, Stephen Fry as Mycroft Holmes and Jared Harris as Professor Moriarty.

Even if you have superhero movie fatigue, you’re still going to want to go out for this one: Captain America opens across Hong Kong today and its the kind of action-paced, feel-good movie that demands your presence in the cinema.

As the skinny and weak but with a heart-of-gold Steve Rogers (played to perfection by Chris Evans) is given a chance to become a super-solider and help American win World War II. Haley Atwell (above) is the girl waiting to dance with the right partner and the film ends with a set-up that will leave fans of the comic excited for Summer 2012′s The Avengers.

Evans’ was fit in the Fantastic Four movies, but his workout regime for Captain America took his body to the next level, filling the red boots and making us believe he could throw the shield around with ease.

Captain America: The First Avenger opens today in Hong Kong.

Well, it’s been 10 years of many people’s lives and now its come to its stunning conclusion with Thursday Hong Kong opening of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.

It’s a review proof movie of course, either you’re a Potter fan or you’re not, but to say that its smashing local movie box office records is like saying Voldemort is one evil dude!

We were not huge Harry Potter movie fans as they felt a bit too chained to the books, but we did love Deathly Hallows Part 1 (read our review here) and Part 2 delivered on all fronts that the other 6 movies couldn’t. There’s enough action and amazing special effects to keep even the adults awake.

According to Warner Bros the movie is the biggest Harry Potter movie ever in Hong Kong and its weekend box office take was HK$28,817,395 from Thursday to Sunday night. We’re sure this is why Captain America was moved 2 weeks later from its US release date so as to stay clear of the Harry Potter powerhouse.

In Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Optimus Prime and Bumblebee return to the big screen for another action packed film that will see the Autobots and the Decepticons face off for a third and final..blah, blah, blah – we got suckered into seeing a Transformers movie for the third time because of the female lead – this time its Victoria Secret’s model Rosie Hunington-Whiteley (pictured above instead of some robots) – and yes that marketing worked.

The new Transformers movie opens today in 3D IMAX, 3D and plain old regular 2D across Hong Kong. If you haven’t booked your tickets yet you might want to (or not) after reading our in-depth review of this latest robot rumble – so spoilers ahead:

The movie sees the return of Shia LaBeouf as Sam Witwicky along with his parents played by Kevin Dunn and Julie White. The film also sees the return of Josh Duhamel as NEST special ops agent Lennox and John Turturro as Simmons (former Sector 7 secret agent). Unfortunately not making a return appearance is the curvaceous and jaw droppingly hot Megan Fox, replacing her as the movie’s eye candy is Victoria Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Thanks to some very nice and much appreciated vertical panning we could see Megan’s replacement is very leggy, extremely shapely and comes with a nice pair of… pouty lips.

The film opens with a load of archival news reel footage relating to the 60’s space race to the moon that has been cleverly edited to set up the premise of the movie, that the Autobots have a crashed spacecraft on the dark side of the moon with an unknown cargo.

As for our human protagonist, Sam has graduated from college and is now looking for a job without much success and only manages to find a job as an office boy, delivering people’s mail. Annoyingly for the first third of the film Sam acts as a whinny little brat going on about how he’s saved the world (twice), why he has to drive a horrid little Datsun (that isn’t a robot in disguise) and why isn’t he working with the Autobots to his new super hot British girlfriend Carly.

Meanwhile Optimus and Bumble Bee are jet setting across the globe carrying out secret black ops missions. On one such mission the Autobots by chance find a Autobot spaceship part and later learn from Buzz Aldrin of the existence of a crashed Autobot ship on the dark side of the moon and that the entire 60’s Lunar program was in fact a secret operation to recover tech from the ship that was eventually abandoned because it was too costly. For the true NASA space nerds spotting Buzz Aldrin playing himself in the movie is going to be the geek high point of the movie and this was one of the most impressive points of the movie for us.

Optimus and company travel to the moon to rescue the cargo and its lone survivor Sentinel Prime (voiced by Leonard Nimoy). After the revival of Sentinel Prime we find out that the cargo is a new piece of tech that will make teleportation across the galaxy possible.

After the death of a paranoid alien conspiracy co-worker and an attempted assassination on Sam by a Decepticon things start to move into high gear. Sam works out that the Decepticons are after the teleportation technology, but it’s too late and the Decepticons steal it and bring an armada of Decepticons to earth for a full scale invasion. From here the movie devolves into a stereotypical alien invasion flick with the fate of the world resting on a small band of rebel fighters and the hero (Sam) on a quest to save his girlfriend and stop the Decepticons evil plans of world conquest (gee whiz, that sounds awfully like the plot to Star Wars).

It’s one amazing pulse pounding action scene after another, which is what Michael Bay knows best. The last third of the movie is non-stop action and pretty much like the previous two films you get to see some nice big explosions and some cool “rock ‘em sock ‘em” robot action.

What impressed us the most in this film is the fact that Rosie Huntington-Whiteley managed to survive a war zone without breaking a nail or messing up her hair and make-up! Literally throughout the third act of this movie Rosie manages to tumble through a collapsing building and run across several war torn streets in four inch heels and super tight pants without getting as much as a speck of dust on her and still look like she just walked off of a photo shoot for Vogue magazine!

Like the previous Transformers’ movies there are few glaring plot holes here and there but Mister Bay hopes that all the big explosions will blind us to those little unsightly blemishes. However we won’t go into them because that’s nick picking a little too much and we don’t want to spoil the movie experience for you.

The movie has quite a good start and for the first 45 minutes it looked like they were actually going make a proper go of telling a story and fleshing out the main characters, but unfortunately that didn’t happen. Like the previous two Transformer movies after the initial setup everything just devolved into one big super CGI spectacle after another.

Acting and character wise Shia’s character Sam seems to have reverted to his whinny teenage self from the first movie and makes viewers’ just want to bitch slap him and tell him to grow a pair.

The bodacious Rosie is just eye candy and this movie being her first acting gig all we can say is she should have done a few toothpaste commercials first. The best performances actually comes from Frances McDormand and John Turtorro who take the flaccid comedy material and manage to make it work. John Malkovich is oddly wasted in this movie and we can only surmise that he was hired to bring a little more acting cred to this movie. Ken Jeong has a small part in this movie and unfortunately he’s playing the same annoying and disgusting character from the Hangover movies and aside from a couple of very cheap gags there really is no need for him.

For your average movie goer this is a great action movie that is somewhat value for money. A Michael Bay movie should be seen on the big screen to be fully appreciated and we advise seeing the 2D version because the 3D version isn’t all that exceptionally. There really isn’t that great a need to fork out good money to see this in 3D because you’ll be dizzy seeing this in 2D in 3D it’s even more disorientating.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon is however by far the best of the three movies primarily because we went into the cinema with very little expectations and found a little more than we expected.
