No, this is not what happens when you marry Angelina Jolie and take care of an ark full of adopted children. This is the new David Fincher film – the mind behind Fight Club, Se7en and The Game now brings us The Curious Case of Benjamin Button – a story of a man who is born old and regresses to a young one throughout his life. A crazy sounding love story told by one of our generation’s most talented directors and hopefully will hit box office gold with this 3rd collaboration with Brad Pitt.

The film from Warner Bros. opens on Christmas Day in Hong Kong and we have nice big Quicktime trailer here or in HD Quicktime:

Even with the last few Fincher films not holding up to the power of his early work, we hope to see a return to form with this film and its “out there” concept, and the trailer gives us hope for a heart-warming yet incredible experience.

The 22nd James Bond movie Quantum of Solace opens today in Hong Kong and it follows up on the previous film with new Bond Daniel Craig – Casino Royale – in that Bond is still looking for revenge over the death of the woman he would have quit MI-6 for.

This movie is review-proof, you’ll see it or not no matter what we say so let’s concentrate on the beautiful new Bond girl that is blowing us away on all the billboards in Hong Kong: Olga Kurleynko.

The 28-year old model from the Ukraine, after appearing in recent movies like “Hitman” and “Max Payne” she now joins the echelon alongside other beautiful women as the newest Bond girl and has already won a lot of critical praise for her role in Quantum of Solace.

See a definitive page of images and links of her at the great Chicipedia site. Below is a backstage interview with Olga Kurylenko on the set of Quantum of Solace – we hope her career has more legs than 90% of the other Bond girls!

Halloween Movie Countdown: The Grudge

The final Hallowe’en Movie you must see!

thegrudge Halloween Movie Countdown: The Grudge

We close our look at modern horror movies with this freak-out from Japan: The Grudge (Ju-On). We remember seeing the trailer in the JP Cinema in Causeway Bay and the entire audience made more noise after those 2 minutes than the main feature (Matrix Revolutions) and while its not the best horror movie ever made, like The Ring, it will give you chills and thrills and images in your mind you won’t forget easily. We haven’t seen the U.S. version with Sarah Michelle Geller, but this Japanese one has enough scary moments to keep you on the edge of your seats. The spider girl and the creepy little kid looking up from the edge of your bed – are freakier than any Freddy Krueger or Jason.

See the trailer here:

Today we hope you are all dressed up and ready to have a creepy and spooky evening in Hong Kong.

HAPPY HALLOWE’EN EVERYONE! See you in November!

Halloween Movie Countdown: 28 Weeks Later

Halloween Movie Countdown Part 3.

28weekslater Halloween Movie Countdown: 28 Weeks Later

We loved the first part 28 Days Later, but that was more a cerebral take on the zombie genre (i.e. the ‘normal’ humans were more horrific than the monsters). This year’s 28 Weeks Later picks up from the end of the first one and keeps going exactly 28 weeks later.

If you saw the first one you know its not really zombies, but the rage virus that is infecting people and turning them into, well, zombie-like creatures. The difference here is that the infected can move at normal human speeds, so you can’t job your way around slow moving zombies, as the amazing first 10 minutes of this movie will attest to. Another good thing is the lack of familiar actors, with the exception of Robert Carlyle, the mostly unknown cast is great for horror movies because you never know who is getting killed next.

We don’t want to speak too much more about this movie to protect the thrills, but its definitely cued up for play again this week as one freaky movie that will have you jumping out of your seat every 5 minutes.

Halloween Movie Countdown Part 2: British chicks and slimy monsters.

descent Halloween Movie Countdown: The Descent

This is a good image to wake up to in the morning, isnt it?

The Descent came out in 2005 from the U.K. and was a great take on the “monster in the cave” movie. 6 women, who apparently like to go and explore caves, run into a race of freaky mutant people that, of course, want to eat them. This movie has more creepy thrills and gore than usual and the usage of an all female cast as the heroes instead of the victims is a nice change of pace, and of course what better setting for a horror movie but inside a dark cave with no light fighting creatures who can see you but you can’t see them. But in the course of the movie, you ask the question who are the monsters: the creatures or the women themselves?

Freaky stuff for sure and good to watch with a group of girls, Sex and the City this is not!
