The sci-fi flick from Peter Jackson finally lands in Hong Kong.

District 9 is the ultimate aliens on earth movie. The movie is produced by Peter Jackson, who found this film on YouTube and worked with director Neil Blomkamp to turn it into a full movie. The shaky-cam results are stunning: An alien ship hovers over Earth and drops off a ton of aliens and we quickly usher them into their own refugee camp – the District 9 of the title – which then turns into a ghetto with cat food, alien weapons dealers, and yes, even prostitution!!! Then a human who is put in charge of relocating them to a new home gets involved and the whole movie goes crazy.

This is going to be a huge hit with Neonpunch readers, in part to its cool sci-fi themes, awesome aliens and mech suits and weapons but also the storyline is very relatable. Its definitely going to conjure up some debate with your friends after you get out. Its like Cloverfield in that it has a similar shaky-cam (though not so severe) feel and that you don’t know what will happen next because there is no Tom Cruise in it to save the day.

Its already been in the US since early August, but Hong Kong gets to see it on the big screen on October 1st. You’ve seen the trailer here already, so have a look at the short film that is the creative inspiration for this film “Alive in Joberg” below:
