Hong Kong Remembers Steve Jobs at Hong Kong Apple Store iVigil
Apple fans came out in full force last night to pay their respects.
The Apple Store logo light was off yesterday in Hong Kong.
As we reported yesterday, local media were already at the Apple Store in IFC Mall since early morning and we grabbed this amazing photo of a single rose laid in front of the store.
During the day more flowers were left at the front walkway of the Apple Store – and someone even left the infamous Steve Jobs figurine in a glass case that made it look like a shrine to the man who changed the world.
Towards the end of the day the organizers of the iVigil showed up with post-it notes and started covering the main glass showcase in the front with messages to Steve and his family and what he meant to them.
It started slowly but as more people saw what was happening more people joined in until the entire wall was covered with muli-colored notes of love, respect and even some drawings of Steve.
There was a lot of media there from newspapers to TV – so you will probably be seeing this in more depth throughout the day and we will try our best to re-post as much as we can and update this post.
Neonpunch reader Marlon Arenas filmed and edited this 3-minute video taken at the iVigil last night – on his iPhone, edited with iMovie on an iMac:
Here is some footage from NowTV submitted by @ChrisData:
Headline News – one of the free newspaper in Hong Kong – was even able to get an 8-page Steve Jobs supplement out in time for the 6pm Rush Hour ride home. Amazing:
We definitely want to give a huge shout-out to 19-year old Hong Kong-based designer Jonathan Mak who designed that amazing logo at the top of this post.
The logo has been retweeted, blogged and used as Facebook profile pics all over the world (even Ashton Kutcher’s Twitter avatar) and even if the local Hong Kong media has yet to shine a light on Jonathan’s amazing tribute to Steve Jobs we wanted to make sure everyone knew about another Hong Kong tribute.

[...] NeonPunch had the scoop: Towards the end of the day the organizers of the iVigil showed up with post-it notes and started covering the main glass showcase in the front with messages to Steve and his family and what he meant to them. [...]
All these people gathered together, could have had a collection for a cancer charity in his honour. I’m guessing the tributes didn’t extend that far.
