The most anticipated Android phone is on its way to HK.

We just got word from HTC Hong Kong that they are finally launching the Hero phone in Hong Kong next Tuesday, August 25th.

As Neonpunch readers know we are very excited about this phone, the 3rd Android phone from HTC and the 2nd available legally in the Hong Kong market.

More on the pricing and actual on street availability date next week. In the meantime read our posts about the HTC Hero here, here and here. Why do we think its so great? It’s definitely the first real contender to the iPhone in terms of interface and form factor looks, while we of course reserve judgment until we actually play with it, reviews from the US and the UK seem to be favorable and the integration with Google is a big plus.

The OS is a special version on Android called Sense in which HTC takes the basics and dresses them up real nice, have a quick look in the video below:

  3. Last month the word was “maybe”:

“HTC CEO Peter Chou has confirmed that “HTC Sense will be available on some other existing devices” has understandably stoked speculation that either the Magic or the original G1 might get an official injection of the slick new interface.”

  5. Does anyone know the price PCCW will sell the phone with/without a contract?

  6. If you took a contract with no limit for upload, it will be free. The contract 478HK$ per month. You pay 3980HK$ when you buy and then 256HK$ during 18 month. I don’t have the price for other package. You should go to a PCCW shop and ask.

  7. It is available for pre-order at many different places, and they all say “early september” for when the phone arrives. Anyone know when exactly the phones will be available? Thanks.

  8. We don’t have the “exact” date, I believe it to do with HTC global guidelines but it should be out by the end of this week if not early next week.

Its like a blockbuster movie event isn’t it?

  9. Wow – incredible. Finally they’ve designed a model that acually looks asthetically pleasing!! They could have done without the ‘bend’ at the bottom, but at least it’s something that *ALMOST* looks as good as the iPhone. WHY it has taken HTC or anyoene else for that matter so long to design something with a nice form factor i have NO idea!

  12. I wonder if this is because of the firmware upgrade that HTC has been working on to make the UI faster. That was supposed to be ready by mid-september. Anyone know if the hero will be delivered with the upgraded firmware?
