iPad: Apple Changes the Game Again

Thursday 28 January 2010 9:18 am

In 90 days Apple releases their tablet computer and evolves Earth again.

Steve Jobs aligns Earth’s destiny with the launch of Apple’s new iPad.

Many of Hong Kong’s digerati and iPhanatics stayed up till just shy of 4am this morning to follow popular U.S. blogs like Engadget and video streaming sites like Ustream to watch live the unveiling of what they will be buying in the next 60-90 days.

Steve Jobs didn’t disappoint: showing off the 9.7-inch LED-backlit, IPS display with multitouch and weighing in at only 1.5lbs and 0.5 inches thick. It’s sexy and easy to carry and perfect for sharing with friends and family. Even more so than the iPhone or iPod Touch.

The price of the device some speculated to be in the HK$8,000 area (even we did) has actually come down to only HK$3,800 (US$499) yes that’s even cheaper than the iPhone itself. That is for the basic model, more HD space sends the price upwards but still not past the $8K threshold.

The perfect compliment to the iPad and a huge detriment to the Amazon Kindle is Apple’s iBook Store. Digital books and magazines you can read with a softer appearance and the biggest step up: color.

Watch the video over on Apple’s site and you can have a look at the full specs there too. Sign up to be notified when you can buy iPad in Hong Kong here.

  1. Oh look. It’s a giant iPod Touch.

Ring me back when it can multitask and accept programs not from the Apple Store.
