iPad Launch Unites Hong Kong Twittersphere
A few more videos and some Twitter shout-outs on the iPad launch.
We wrap up our coverage of last Friday’s iPad launch here in Hong Kong with more photos and more videos and a Twittersphere round-up of photos taken from around the city.
To re-set the scene: Thursday we had a Black Rain warning that put a lot of people’s iPad future’s in jeopardy. Would a typhoon hit Hong Kong closing all stores on Friday morning? Or would luck be with us for just a little longer? Looks like the iGods were smiling upon us and the sun was shining for a truly magical day.
We thought that Studio A would have the most people so we initially set-up shop there (you can see those photos here) but it seems we shouldn’t have left our homebase as the DG Lifestyle Shop in Times Square was the place with the most action.
Here are more photos of the huge line that formed from the 9th floor and snaked down the stairwell to the 6th floor:
And here again is our video of the 10am door opening at the DG shop:
And a compilation video of the stores that we hit Friday morning in Style House, Times Square and IFC Mall:
We pushed out early that morning on Twitter to use the hashtag #ipadhk when tweeting about the iPad and our loyal readers came out in full force, with over 60 Hong Kong Twitterers reporting live from all over Hong Kong the status of the lines they were in.
First up is this iPhone video of the line that assembled in front of the Broadway at Elements Mall. Though the line looks long customers can actually stand in the air conditioned mall to line-up unlike Hong Kong malls which had people line up in sweatshop like fashion in stairwells – and at least one girl didn’t let her friend cut in line:
Here are photos from @tdlucas and @midnitie posted on Flickr of the line up at IFC Mall – we only saw the beginning of it so it seems it went from the 2nd floor of the IFC Mall out the back and into Exchange Square:
@bachlau was over in Tai Koo at the Cityplaza where he snapped this photo of the line:
…and this photo of Broadway selling out of the 16GB Wifi and the 16GB and 32GB 3G iPads:
But by far the toughest photo we saw is from @coffeemeow who tweeted out early that she was dressed for success: “Knuckle duster clutch “CHECK” Stilettos “CHECK” I am properly armed for #ipadhk” – she probably was prepared after being tested in line for Hello Kitty dolls at McDonald’s:
But apparently she didn’t need to get violent with anyone because her tweet at 10:15am said she got her iPad and was off to relax at breakfast in Elements mall.
You can see more from this page compiled by @jayoatway. There is still tinglings with that hashtag so you can have a look there via your favorite new iPad Twitter client.

Neonpunch on Twitter

I tweeted a bunch with the hash #ipadhk but for some reason it doesn’t show up in the searches. I wonder how many others are lost in this ‘known bug’ of poor indexing on Twitter.
