Multitasking and 6 More Things Come to the iPhone
This mornings Apple event brings the iPhone to a new level.
Yes, we know this is turning into NeonApple these days, but here is more news from the House of Steve that concentrates not on the iPad but the iPhone.
While the iPhone is a great device it still lacks A LOT of features that phones like the Nexus One already have – today that all changes with 7 new paradigm shifting additions to the new iPhone OS coming this Summer:
- Multitasking
- Folders
- Fast App Switching
- Local Notifications
- iBooks
- Games Center
- iAd
You can see what these are and the 100+ other new features Apple has added to the new OS here.
So, while we’re trying to take all this in still – we think multitasking and background Skype is great, we think iAd is probably the biggest step forward to creating more exciting opportunities in the App developer market. With a 60/40 split in ad revenue in favor of the developer, Apple is now creating a way for anyone with an idea to start making money in their store and allowing good apps to be given away for free as well as make money for developers releasing Lite versions since sometimes that’s all some people download forgoing the paid versions.
Not that we’re that precious about it, but there is still no Flash or Java support – but that’s not a big deal to us – and now that Apple has knocked off another 90% of the stuff missing from the iPhone we still need something to look forward to.
The SDK is available now for developers, the rest of us will have to wait till the Summer to upgrade our 3GS’s (sorry 2G and 3G people, no multitask for you)

@imawatagaybar Story amended.
hi i am a developer and i have the OS 4.0 because it is still in beta version, it still has some problems. But its good, all the features usable, and we don’t need to jailbreak to get many of those features.
