Louis Vuitton Unveils New Men’s Collection for Fall/Winter 2011
Embracing Amish elegance with a hint of strange for Hong Kong.
Louis Vuitton has released a new men’s collection unlike anything they’ve done before.
Executed by studio director Paul Helbers under the artistic direction of Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton is exploring territory as yet uncharted by the fashion giant. The new collection has been inspired mainly by the timeless elegance of the traditional Amish style and infused with a Lynchian strangeness.
The clothes’ otherworldly effect is achieved with an emphasis on construction and sculpted line over color as well as in the elegant, if unusual, material choices: from python, and rubberized matte Macintosh to moonlight suede which lends an eerie glow to the pieces. The homage to the Amish is apparent in more than just a reliance on the color black; the fasteners have also been changed, from buttons to traditional hook and eye closures.
In the fall/ winter men’s collection Louis Vuitton has also turned the world of high fashion shoes on its head with reversed luxury, where the alligator is on the inside and patent leather covers the heel.
Combined, these innovations make for a wardrobe, that in the words of Helbers is perfectly suited for an “unworldly boy wanderer as he discovers America.”
