New MacBook Air Comes in Two Sizes and are Lighter and Slimmer Than Ever

Just when you thought the Air couldn’t get any thinner…

When Steve Jobs said that the netbook was a dud he really did go out of his way to prove that – and now the fruits of that labor are here with the new Macbook Air. Its powerful enough to be a fully powered laptop but with the lightness and portability of a netbook.

Apple announced 2 new Macbook Air models today – a big brother 13.3″ model and a 11.6″ model – both under an inch thick and the cheapest model starts at HK$7,588.

So the question is: should you buy one? It looks to definitely be replacing the old MacBook Air and the entry level Macbook (aka The White One) with its price point and its weight – but its a bit underpowered for serious hardcore work for designers and photpgraphers but they have their Macbook Pro line for that.

It looks like Steve wants to make a whole family of easy-to-use devices for the person that just surfs the web and takes some photos and does social media on their computer. This is the same audience that is happy with the new AppleTV and the new iPod’s – kind of the lightweight Apple user.

The heavyweights have iPhone’s and Mac Pro’s and an iPad for on the go communication and media consumption – this new Macbook is definitely aimed at the parents, the students and the girlfriends/wives and yes the girly-men that don’t want to carry a heavy 17-inch Macbook Pro from the office to home everyday.

So Apple is definitely taking care of both sides of the computer user spectrum and will just continue to build that marketshare with competitively priced hardware. Its still not cheap enough to compete with the PC Netbooks but it is the perfect first Mac and will definitely see great sales for those waiting for a new laptop this Christmas.
