Paramount’s Summer movie line-up is 1 word: Amazing!

transformers 3 sentinel prime Paramount Summer 2011 Preview: Transformers 3 Steals the Show in 3DNeonpunch was invited to Paramount Pictures Summer movie preview last week where they screened trailers and extended sequence rough cuts to the media and business partners to get everyone excited for Summer 2011, which we already are.

With Thor just around the corner – we were also given exclusive sneak peaks inside the MCL JP Cinema of Super 8, Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon, Footloose, Kung Fu Panda 2, Mission: Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol and Cowboys and Aliens.

The preview for Super 8 the new E.T.-like movie from Star Trek director J.J. Abrams was about 20 minutes of character stuff and one colossal train wreck. The preview started with an introduction by J.J. saying everything wasn’t ready – the music, the color, the sound – but we did get a good look at a fun looking family movie about something being transported by the government that escapes and gets involved with a bunch of movie making kids in the ’60′s. While we didn’t see the monster/alien/thing the kids all draw you in to the film so we’re excited to see this one.

Quick trailers for Kung Fu Panda 2 and the new Mission: Impossible movie with Tom Cruise and Jeremy Renner were shown. KFP2 looking like more of the same and M:I:4 has Tom up to his old climbing tricks this time scaling the tallest building in Dubai.

Cowboys and Aliens still fails to impress us even with James Bond AND Indiana Jones in it together directed by Jon Favreau of Iron Man 1 and 2 fame. Maybe it’s just the clips they showed us – we have a ripped Englishman as a cowboy, not many action sequences that we haven’t seen already. We’ll still await it – but the mix of the old west and aliens? It might have been more exciting if it was Young Guns vs Aliens – the Ridley Scott version – and they can throw in Predators for the sequel.

But by far the movie of the day was the third Transformers film Dark Side of the Moon – shot with the Avatar cameras and has director Michael Bay telling us in an introduction video that it’s the “best live action 3D movie so far!” And from the mix of 2D and 3D footage we were treated to – we have to agree. From the 15 minutes we saw its already erased Transformers 2: Revenge of The Fallen from our minds and that received our vote for Worst Movie of 2009.

In the 2D sequence we saw, Sam (Shia LeBoef) is shooting some kind of grappling hook into Starscream’s eye and is being pulled all over the place – through windows and through buildings – now it looks OK in 2D, but when the same scene was shown in 3D it looked amazing. Bay has deliberately shot scenes to take advantage of the 3D and that is what will make this movie work unlike the movies in the past that convert to 3D afterwards with so thought on making things fly at the audience – as it were.

There is an amazing sequence of the army guys jumping out of planes over Chicago with batwing webbing being chased by Decepticons which looks to be one of the key action sequences in the film.

We’re also thinking that the movie would lose points because Megan Fox wasn’t cast in this one due to some animosity towards the director. Well, Bay has again found a way around that by casting amazingly hot British Victoria’s Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in the part of Sam’s girlfriend – so Dad’s – you’re still covered there taking your kids to see this film 10 times in a row.

Megan Who?

And oh yeah, Shockwave makes his debut in this movie and he looks pretty badass! And the Autobot at the top of the page is Sentinel Prime, Optimus Prime’s mentor and will be voiced by Mr. Spock himself, and former Transformers: The Movie villain Galvatron: Leonard Nimoy.

A little behind the scenes video to show that some of the stuff is real and not all CGI:

But even with these extended cuts of the films, the ones we personally are still the most excited for coming from Paramount is Thor and Captain America – the 2 Marvel superhero films – seeing the 2 trailers again on the big screen just shows how exciting those films look and think they will be the big winners alongside Transformers: Dark of the Moon which we’re betting is the biggest film of 2011 in box office revenue for sure – even if there is a storyline or not!

We had to check in our iPhone’s so we don’t have any pirate footage for you – but we’ve embedded as many clips as we could find on YouTube for you!

We’ll see you at the cinemas this summer for one of the most exciting movie season ever!

  1. A simple winning formula for a Transformers movie; more autobot/decepticon screen-time & less human screen-time. I hope Director Bay has finally figured that out. Third times a charm…right? >_<
