Review: Neonpunch.com’s Most Anticipated Movies of 2010
We review how we failed with our choices of the big geek movies.
We listed out our Top 10 Most Anticipated Films of 2010 on January 13th of this year – now we’re going to look back at them and see if they turned out to be as exciting as we hoped – and at first glance, we’ll say we picked a lot of stinkers!
Our number one pick was Iron Man 2 – while it was a great film, it wasn’t as good as the first one for many reasons, but we’ll let all of that slide because Scarlett Johansson has separated from Mr. Green Lantern Ryan Reynolds and now we might have a shot with the Black Widow herself. Iron Man 2 is out on Blu-ray now and we say that its the actors in this movie that make it what it is. Read our review here.
Our number two pick is Tron Legacy and it unfortunately didn’t live up to its hype, and where it was acting in Iron Man 2 that made it great, Tron Legacy was great because of its special effects. Read our review here.
Inception was our number 3 movie and it ended up being the best of the 10 we picked. It was the underdog in the Top 10 but wins because of the direction and the screenplay – two things most movies didn’t have this year. Read our review here.
Then it turns into a mess:
#4: Kick Ass – ok that was a fun movie but a bit one-note and don’t think it’ll be more memorable other than being Nicolas Cage’s best movie in over a decade.
#5: The A-Team - chalk this up to nostalgia and what we thought was clever casting. Fundamentally the movie is a fun romp but we doubt its coming back for a sequel. Our review.
#6: Clash of the Titans - crappy 3D or not, nostalgia blurred our vision on this one because this was one terrible film. But it did well enough to warrant a sequel to be called Wrath of the Titans. We’ll sit that one out. Clash of the Titans will always be remembered as the two stars of Schindler’s List reuniting in a bucket of mediocrity! Oh the humanity!
#7: Jonah Hex – WTF? How did this get in the list? Must have been Megan Fox and comic books. This was probably the biggest stinker of the year.
#8: Repo Men – another WTF? The high concept was great and maybe we were riding high on Jude Law’s performance as Watson in Sherlock Holmes but this movie was DOA.
#9: The Expendables – do you see a recurring theme here? One of nostalgia? We gave it a thumbs up in this review, but after seeing it again on Blu-ray we take away all points other than the cameos by Bruce and Arnie, if this didn’t have the names attached it would have just been a super crap movie instead of just a crap movie. Our review.
#10: The Wolfman – probably the biggest faux pas on our part in this entire list. We thought what could go wrong with Rick Baker doing the werewolf make-up and the hot Emily Blunt running around chased by a werewolf – this movie will feature probably as our pick of Worst Movies of 2010.
We’ll be back in a few days with our real list of the best films of 2010 and our Top 10 Anticipated Movies of 2011 as well – but lets be honest after this list why would you believe us?

No love for Expendables? IMHO it was a great flick nostalgia or not.
But it does seem Hollywood is playing on us old guys sense of the past to create new movies.
6 of your 10 movies are based on old properties or old movies. Amazing!
