Review: Salt
5 great things about the new Angelina Jolie movie.
We were all set to hate Salt.
Didn’t like Wanted, overexposed baby adopting news and in a summer of iron men, dream thieves and 3 teams of special force commandos – was there room for Angelina Jolie and her thick, beautiful lips?
The answer is a surprising: yes.
While we’re not saying its a revolutionary and extraordinary film, we loved it more than Predators, The Losers and Green Zone combined. Here’s 5 things that stuck out:
- Even at 34 Angelina is still super hot maybe even more so especially in that black hair.
- Some crazy-ass stunts in this, to the point that this should have been a comic book movie.
- Its still got stuff about the Cold War! And we love Russia as the enemy.
- There is no other actress, bar maybe Milla Jovovich, that we can believe can disarm 3 guys, beat up 2 more and assassinate another in 5 minutes. Scarlett looked great doing it, but our money is on AJ if she ever threw down with ScarJo.
- It was directed by the guy that made Clear and Present Danger, edited by the guy that edited movies like Lethal Weapon and Casino Royale and written by the guy that made Equilibrium - so you know its got to kick all kinds of butt – and it did.
If you can believe a radioactive spider bite can turn a boy into a superhero, then you can check those same disbelief suspenders at the door going into Salt – because once you get past that its 100 minutes of bone-crunching, bullet-firing, tire-screeching fun.
While it won’t go down as one of the most best action movies of all time, its one of those movies where you’ll catch on TV late at night and before you know it you’ve watched it all the way through. And hopefully not then finding your baby was adopted by the woman you’ve just been watching.
Salt is playing now in Hong Kong.
