A new entrant to the Digital Single Lens Reflex market emerges.
While its big news that Samsung has decided to throw it’s hat into the Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera arena, Neonpunch is a little confused on what’s its name is. The new DSLR was introduced to the Hong Kong media by Samsung as the NX10 but on Samsung’s Hong Kong website it’s called the GX-20. Now since this is Samsung’s first DSLR ever to go on the market we can’t have mixed things up or gotten it wrong.
So, whether its name is the NX10 or the GX-20 Samsung has released a DSLR that features a 14.6 Mega-pixel APS-C CMOS sensor and the ultra-fast image processor DRIMe II Pro. Just to make things easy Neonpunch will refer to the Samsung DSLR as the NX10 (until Samsung tells us otherwise).
What makes this camera stand out from the rest of the pack is the fact that instead of the traditional reflective mirror and prism used in Digital Single Lens Reflex cameras, the Samsung NX10 uses a high precision electronic viewfinder which significantly reduces the camera’s body size. The camera measures in at 123 x 87 x 39.8 mm and weighs only 353g.
The NX10 is equipped with Samsung’s exclusive Fast and Decisive Contrast Auto Focusing, providing a 15-zone (basic) and 35-zone (feature) automatic focus, and supporting 247-zone multi-zones metering. Due to the elimination of a mirror box the NX10 is not affected by the delay produced by the reflector; its high-speed continuous shooting function can shoot up to three frames per second for a maximum of 10 superior photos at 14.6 megapixels.
A total of three lenses will be launched including a 30 mm F2.0 pancake lens; an 18-55 mm F3.5-5.6 kit lens with optical image stabiliser; and a 50-200 mm F4.0-5.6 ED telephoto lens. In addition, Samsung will also launch the CPL and ND filters which are tailor-made for NX lenses, as well as two external flashlights SEF20A and SEF42A, with GN values equal to GN20 and GN42.
If the above lenses aren’t to your liking then you can choose from a wide range of Pentax lenses by using a K-mount adapter. Any lens that utilizes the K-mount interchangeable lens system can be used in conjunction with NX10, opening up the choice of lenses from the three Samsung lenses to the whole K-mount system of lenses.
