Friday. 20 August. 2010. 9:55 am

Well not quite, but still will keep shooting like a semi-pro.

The iPhone 4 camera is pretty amazing, but wouldn’t it be even more amazing with a few lenses? And that goes the same for your Blackberry and Android camera phones as well.

PhotoJoJo has come out with 3 magnetic lenses that easily attach to your smartphone camera and give you 3 new ways to snap pictures with a wide angle, fisheye and macro view.

The bundle of 3 lenses costs HK$320 (US$40) or you can buy just the Wide/Angle and Fisheye separately. And they ship to Hong Kong.

Turn Your iPhone into a Canon DSLR Camera Remote

Monday. 15 June. 2009. 9:54 am

It’s true — there’s an app for everything.

dslr_remote

Ever since the crazy idea of iPhone apps came up, we knew that it was going to be a huge success. Soon after the release of iPhone 3G, there were apps for almost anything– games, alarm clocks, even managers for menstruation cycles. Well, OnOne has just proven that the iPhone is capable of doing almost anything with their new app, DSLR Remote.

As it’s pretty obvious from the name, we’re not going to explain again that this is app turns your iPhone into a remote for your DSLR camera. With this app, you’ll be able to control things like the shutter, aperture, and white balance. Also, if you have a Live View camera, you can also get a live stream of your camera’s viewfinder.

To use this app, however, you’ll need to connect your DSLR camera to your computer with an installed server software. Then, you can control your camera with your iPhone or iPod Touch through a WiFi connection to your computer. Since most photpgraphers use a portable Macbook to check the photos this is a great tool. One reason you may want to use it is to perhaps take a photo of yourself. You’ll be able to take your time and adjust the picture instead of just setting a timer and having to hurry back to your place to smile for the picture.

Currently, this app will only work with Canon EOS DSLR cameras. Nikon users may be a little disappointed at the moment, but a version for you will be available in mid-July. if you’ve got a Canon, you can download the Lite version now for US$1.99/HK$16 or go all out for the full professional version at US$19.99/HK$160. Read up more from the developers website at OnOne Software website.

Tuesday. 19 May. 2009. 10:35 am

Canon has released many Digital SLR cameras, but which one is right for you?

canon-50d

The Canon 450D, 500D, 50D– they all sound alike, but which one is better? You might think, “Oh, 500D is the biggest number, so it must be the best.” However, that’s really not the case. Let’s take a look at how these three cameras really stand against each other.

First up is the Canon EOS 50D. The name can be misleading; though it has the smallest number, it’s actually the most powerful one out of the three. It features a powerful 15.1 mega-pixel sensor that’s covered with a self-cleaning fluorine solution, so you won’t have to worry about dust ruining your pictures. Also, the DIGIC 4 processor is fast enough to support 6.3fps of continuous shooting, and can shoot in bursts up to 90 JPEGs with an UDMA card. Last but not least, it comes with a powerful 3.0 VGA LCD display, so you can view your pictures at the highest quality possible. Because of it’s powerful features, this cameras sells for an expensive HK$9,280 for the body alone.
