Celebrate 20 years of The Simpsons on Facebook

Monday. 11 January. 2010. 3:16 pm

“Ooh, they have the internet on computers now!”

D’oh! Can you believe it’s been 20 years since Homer, Marge, Maggie, Lisa and Bart first entered our lives? Some of you reading Neonpunch were probably little kids when the yellow-colored family hit the airwaves in 1990 and dug the show for its basic Bart awesomeness. As you grew and as the show gained popularity, its in-jokes and adult comedy shone through to make it the most sucessful animated TV series of all time.

So, to celebrate 20 years, here is a desktop app that takes The Simpsons to a new level in awesome. Play digital tricks on your friends and invite them to compete with you to see who becomes the Prince O’Pranks. Have Homer keep you virtual company on your desktop while you work or play. Get updates on the latest and greatest episodes and info from your favorite TV show.

Your whole desktop becomes a Simpsons interface with Homer walking around showing you pranks you can play on your Facebook friends. Add your friends in and, while they have the Simpsons interface up, you can attack them with Duff Beer Bombs, Itchy and Scratchy bombs, Radiation sticks, baby bottles and more.

You’ll need Adobe Air and a Facebook account and you’re all ready to go!

Pingo is Probably the Only Facebook Friend You’ll Never Ignore

Tuesday. 8 December. 2009. 9:00 pm

This robotic penguin reads and connects to the web and Facebook.

pingo

Tiny and yeah, ok, pretty cute, Pingo is a tiny robotic penguin and the first official mydeskfriend,  launching today at www.mydeskfriend.com. We first reported about this Facebook-talking robot back in July, and now it’s finally here.

Pingo integrates into its owners’ Facebook account via a Facebook application that allows users to give their device its own name, profile and personality, as well as nurture its moods and manage its daily life. The interactive playmate can zoom around desktops, express moods, respond to voice commands, sing songs and read aloud email messages, headlines, stock quotes and even the weather!

You can set mydeskfriend up to read RSS newsfeeds, spoil it with food and vitamins from a Facebook gift page, and lull it to sleep by gently rocking it in your hands. Pingo can follow fingers around a desktop, while sensory devices ensure that it never falls off a desk when moving around on its own.

‘Junaio’ is the First Social Augmented Reality iPhone App

Friday. 13 November. 2009. 10:39 am

Another ‘augmented reality’ iPhone app, but this one has dinosaurs!

junaio

Available for free in the iTunes App Store is the new augmented reality app called Junaio from Metaio.

What makes this one different from the dozens of others is that Junaio lets you add in 3D objects (like a Tyrannosaurus Rex) into our reality, and you can send those images (and other things you put in the augmented reality) via Twitter or post on Facebook to share with your friends.

You have to see it to believe it, so here’s the video below (get past the strange musical choice and concentrate on the visuals):
