Which iPad, if any, will you call your own?

Apple made a comment yesterday about being “nimble” in pricing of the iPad if the market demand for it isn’t as big as they think.
So, we thought we’d run a poll to see if this news would affect the way you buy an iPad, keeping in mind the big drop in price the first iPhone experienced on its launch (US$200 in short order, but gave early adopters $100 in store credit).
As iPadawans have noticed, there are 6 different versions of the iPad, there are 2 main choices: 3G and no-3G, and then with 3 different memory specs to suit every kind of user.
So now that some of the hype/backlash has died down a bit, please share with us your purchasing plans come this March/April 2010:

It’s not AS geeky if it’s in Soho right?

Come out and have some drinks with the iElite next Wednesday, February 10th at RED SoHo and hear about the latest iPhone apps and voice your eternal hatred of the iPad (or at least until it comes out, in which you may change your tune) at the February iPhanatics Hong Kong meet-up.
The meet-up is centered around iPhone and iPhone apps, but it seems its drawing all kinds of Apple fans in Hong Kong as people want to talk Macbooks, iWork, iLife, iTunes and of course the big buzz word this time will be: iPad.
The people from Powermat will be there to demo live their wireless recharging station that will soon be available in Hong Kong and offer some special promotions. iKit and Ultimate Mac and PC Gallery will also be there showing off their iPhone accessories.

Hong Kong falls in love with the iPhone…again!

They’ve been promoting this for weeks! Yes, that’s right people the Apple iPhone is no longer exclusive to just the 3 Mobile network! You now have a second choice of SmarTone-Vodafone as your iPhone mobile carrier who boasts that they have the fastest network in town. Will they be able to speed up your iPhone?
On Saturday January 23 SmarTone-Vodafone held a special launch party at New Town Plaza, Shatin, where customers could buy the iPhone on the spot! So all you 3-haters out there have lost another excuse to not get an iPhone in Hong Kong, and judging from the crowds there are a lot of SmarTone-Vodafone fans that have been patiently waiting for this day.
While future iPhone owners queued up in droves, SmarTone-Vodafone, kept them entertained with live performances by local pop artists that included Stephy Tang and Alex Fong, together with Kary Ng, Terence Siufay and at17. Hosting the event were celebrity DJs Sammy and Siu Yee will host the event.

Steve Jobs is getting ready to part the red sea of gadgets again in 2010.

Here’s a final Christmas gift from Neonpunch to make sure you don’t spend all that “lai see” money you get from unimaginative gift-buying relatives tomorrow. The internet rumour mill has been in full swing while Hong Kong has been sleeping, and it seems that Apple’s unveiling of a “MacTablet” is looking likely for January 2010.
Big time news sources in the U.S. are declaring it’s coming in January so you can choose to believe them or not, but to us it seems like the perfect time for this to happen. The news is that developers are working on apps and the unveiling will happen in January but will go on sale in the middle of the year - an exact mirror of what happened with the iPhone launch in 2007.
While we are Apple zombies ourselves, we still question the practicality of such a device; which therefore makes us question if it’s actually a tablet or a bigger iPod instead of a netbook. Apple is all about user experience, the typical HK$4000 netbook is a negative user experience – people are trading in portability for their eyesight.
The lowest end Macbook is under HK$8,000 and the iPhone is under HK$6,000, so where will a “tablet” sit in terms of price point for Apple? Will it simply be a bigger iPod with apps, videos and possible magazine, comic book and newspaper content; or will it phase out the entry-level MacBook by having similar guts but more portability? Are you even ready to dump keyboards for touchscreens?
That said, of course we’ll be first in line to get one!
One thing we know, Steve Jobs will stun us: either with something no-one can guess or maybe even nothing at all (remember September?) We just thought we’d bring this to your attention in case you were still scurrying around buying gifts when what you, us, them, that guy over there really, really want…could be a few weeks away.
Merry Christmas everyone!
