Samsung’s New OLED Laptop to ‘WOW’ World and Your Lap

Wednesday. 9 September. 2009. 10:11 am

Samsung gets to market first with this new tech.

samsung

OLED stands for Organic Light Emitting Diode in easier terms it means “Super skinny video screens that can basically wrap around your wrist.” So you can imagine how totally cool, and how totally useless your current netbook will be, when it starts to come out at a consumer level later in 2010:

Samsung says it aims to roll out this beauty with a 12.1-inch, 1280×768 AMOLED screen by the end of next year, and it might even be available as early as the third quarter.

Samsung SDI is the world’s largest OLED screen manufacturer, so it would be only natural for it to be first up with an OLED notebook. This will certainly be a premium item — nobody’s talking price, but we’re guessing this sexy lappie will probably cost at least US$5000. Fast forward five years, and OLED laptops will be commonplace … and cheap.

It seems new tech always costs alot when it comes out but within 24 months its dirt cheap. But keep your eyes open for more OLED devices coming out from Samsung before this one does.

Here’s a 4-minute video from CES 2009 that will open your mind to the possibilities that OLED will be bringing to our gadgets:

Toshiba Sells World’s First Notebook With 512GB SSD!

Monday. 25 May. 2009. 9:38 am

This notebook may not offer you the best specs, but it sure is expensive!

Solid State Drives are gradually getting more popular these days, as they prove to be a lot faster and quieter than traditional hard drives. However, their prices sure didn’t drop much! Toshiba’s new Dynabook SS RX2/WAJ comes with Toshiba’s new self-made 512GB SSD, at a very expensive 398,000Yen/HK$32,000.

What can you expect from such an expensive computer? Well, if you expect a super gaming rig, you’re definitely going to be disappointed. With this laptop, you’ll get a Intel Core 2 Duo SU9400 1.4GHz CPU, 3GB of RAM, a DVD-burner, a 12.1″ display, and of course, the 512GB SSD hard drive. No, you won’t be getting anything close to a 280M.

You may think– that’s so overpriced! Well, the truth is, solid state drives aren’t even a single bit cheap. In fact, the SSD itself is US$1,500, enough to buy an above-average laptop! However, the SSD has blazing speeds of up to 230MB/s read, and 180MB/s write, which is 2-3 times better than average traditional hard drives!

Currently, this laptop has only been made available for sale in Japan. However, we doubt it will stay Japan-only for long. If you’ve just got to have the SSD, you can go ahead and purchase it when it comes to Hong Kong. As for us, we’d probably wait for the SSDs to lower in price before we have a go at it.

Wrap Your Laptop in Luxury With the Red Maloo Laptop Sleeve

Monday. 20 April. 2009. 10:16 am

It’s time to go out and buy your laptop some designer clothing.

Usually, we aren’t too interested in laptop bags; after all, they’re just a more padded backpack. However, the Red Maloo Laptop Sleeve really caught our attention. It offered more than plain old protection. With this one, it’s all about the design and beauty.

There’s no zippers in this thing. All you have to do is open up the Velcro and unwrap your precious laptop. Actually, you don’t have to totally take it out, since the sides double up as mouse pads and the bottom part can act as a little comforter for your arms. That’s what we call a smart design.

These laptops are available from a few online retailers, in 3 different sizes– 13″, 15″, and 17″ to best fit your different sized laptops. Depending on the size, they range from about HK$780 to HK$1200. They come a little pricey for a piece of felt, but they’re still quite a bit cheaper than those high-end laptop bags. If you want to check these out, you can take a look at RushFaster, or you can always google for another store.
