We’re pretty sure it doesn’t come with acid blood…
We’ve shown you USB figures from Transformers and Star Wars in the past, and the trend of bringing pop culture sci-fi movie characters right to your desktop.
Now, it’s Alien’s turn. This 138 x 85 x 240 mm figure from Japan is taking pre-orders next month. We’re not sure if this is just a USB toy, a USB hub or a USB thumbdrive, but then again if this thing is on your desk with a red glow coming out of its mouth and looking this cool, we’re all for it.
Its ¥6,450 (HK$560) and you can order one right here.
James Cameron merges action figures with Augmented Reality.
The big movie coming to Hong Kong this Christmas is James Cameron’s Avatar. A sci-fi epic about a human soldier (Sam Worthington from Terminator: Salvation) infiltrating the alien race called the Na’vi, it’s about their battle for survival (trailer below) and is one amazing show. One of the cooler set pieces is this Amp Suit, what looks to be an upscaled version of the Aliens Power Loader where the human characters get in and ride this around fighting blue aliens – the ultimate sci-fi!
Mattel Toys is releasing an Amp Suit toy in time for Christmas and what sets it apart from other robot toys is that it has the iTag system built in, which means it works with your computer to bring real-life 3D images to your computer screen. If you haven’t seen this in action before, it’s kind of hard to explain so have a watch and get ready to head down to Toys R Us afterwards with about HK$200 to avail of your own:
You saw this Total Immersion technology this Summer on movies like Star Trek and Transformers, but this is taking it to the next level with actual toys. Makes sense really since we usually have tons of robots and superheroes decorating our computers to begin with! Learn more at the official site AvatarItag.com – remember you also need a webcam to make it work!
If this version of the Amp Suit is too “kiddie” for you, Sideshow Toys has a limited edition HK$9,350 (US$1,199) version that looks amazing, but the downside is that it doesn’t move and it doesn’t interact with your computer.
Today is the day that Hong Kong gets to see the much-talked about G.I. Joe movie and the editors at Neonpunch get to see if Hollywood has once again raped another part of our childhoods.
As Transformers before it, G.I. Joe is based on the Hasbro toy line that has its beginnings more than 40 years ago. This movie revolves around the 1980’s incarnation that thrilled so many 30-40 year olds today. If you owned the 3 3 /4″ figures when you were a kid then the fight scenes in the trailer of Snake-Eyes and Storm Shadow gave you more than a chill down your spine, it probably brought you to nerdgasm.
So we’ll see how it all turns out, we’ve all been burned before by Hollywood, most recently by Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and so we don’t have much faith in this one either, but we hope we at least will have some fun with the action sequences and at least we know we’ll enjoy seeing Sienna Miller in tight black leather.
We’d love to hear from you as well, fans or noobs, if you see it today or over the weekend let us know what you thought in the poll or leave a comment below.
Monkeys and Gentlemen, we present around the world with the lovely Megan Fox: stunning photos of this gorgeous girl from various openings around the world for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Yeah, we’d trade Will Smith and Keanu Reeves for one Megan Fox appearance in Hong Kong any day…a-n-y-d-a-y!
In the video below we find out how the movie company actually made Megan Fox hotter for this Transformers sequel:
Oh no, don’t stop there, keep going for all the pix:
Still not sold? Hope this brings you a bit closer to Yo Joe Goodness!
We Twittered this yesterday, but we loved it so much we’re posting it today to make sure you see it. This is the official international poster for the G.I. Joe live-action movie hitting Hong Kong on August 6, 2009.
If we need to point out the names of the characters on this poster, specifically the girl in black at the top with the sunglasses or the dude all in black at the bottom right, then most likely you are too young to remember the cartoon series its based on and the movie will live and die on its own merits.
While the rest of us that do know each of these characters, will most likely give the movie a “bye” no matter what its like because of its finally here! Yes its great to see Optimus Prime come to life albeit completely warped from the way we saw him in over 100 episodes of the animated series in the first Transformers live-action movie, but it will be a fanboy dream come true to finally see Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow go head to head in live-action. How many nods to the cartoons will there be? We hope at least as many as they did in Iron Man. If not, we just hope they touch on all the cool stuff we remember and add in new high-tech weapons and keep Marlon Wayans dialogue to a minimum (they should have cast him as Snake-Eyes!) and we should be happy camper no matter how naive that may sound considering the chop suey job Hollywood did on X-Men Origins: Wolverine and yes the director is the same guy who made Van Helsing.
We posted the trailer before, so here is a great video from IGN that shows who has been cast as each of the Joe characters:
The Superbowl teased, now you can see more accelerator suit goodness.
The new G.I. Joe movie trailer is above. Our take is that it looks very cool, albeit the effects look a bit unfinished in that they don’t look as blended with the background as you usually see. But no matter how it turns out, it has space, snow, underground scenes, ninja fighting, chesty Baroness shots and any movie that destroys the Eiffel Tower has our attention. We don’t have a date yet for this in Hong Kong, but it opens on August 7th in the States.
And just in case you were too busy watching Swine Flu updates in Wan Chai, here is the full Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen trailer as well:
