Some reasons to buy the DVD’s rather than the “China Specials”
With the announcement of this Futurama DVD box set collecting all the TV episodes and movies in this awesome Bender head box we thought we’d spotlight some of the cooler DVD box set packaging that we’ve seen in the past year. Being in Hong Kong, we all have an easy opportunity to pick up the Chinese pirated discs in the city or a jump over the border, but these fancy packages make the DVD become more than just a disc you watch and toss but a collectible piece of Pop Culture and that’s what we’re all about here at Neonpunch.com:
1. Futurama: The Complete Collection 1999-2009
As mentioned this Bender-head box collects the last decade worth of Futurama stuff. It’s coming out soon to help hype up the NEW Futurama series coming out soon, but this bad boy is going to se you back US$200/HK$1600 if you go direct to HMV Hong Kong or you can order from Amazon here and get 40% off.
2. Watchmen Blu-ray Director’s Cut (Amazon Exclusive Nite Owl Ship)
This is a crazy deluxe version available only at Amazon. Its the actual Owl-Ship with the Blu-ray director’s cut inside the base. This one will set you back about US$120/HK$1,000 and maybe, just maybe, you can see Nite-Owl and Silk Spectre II get it on inside. Available July 21, 2009.
The Watchmen collectible line is heading to Hong Kong this Fall.
Hot Toys keeps on coming with new ways to spend our money. In what we hope is the first of a complete series of all the characters from the movie, Silk Spectre is the first collectible action figure based on the Watchmen movie.
The Silk Spectre II figure stands approximately 30cm tall and features more than 26 points of articulation, it also features:
Dressed in her movie accurate costume of a black & yellow romper with garters, black thigh-high boot tops, long black gloves, belt, and interchangeable trench coat
Three versions of the Watchmen are coming for home video. Regular single-disc DVD, deluxe 2-disc DVD and the mother of it all the deluxe 2-disc Blu-ray. And then in a new marketing twist, Dr. Manhattan will be on Facebook with you:
In an industry first, Warner Home Video is set to announce a plan to sync up “friend” networks on Facebook with the interactive community-screening features of Warners’ Blu-ray Disc releases, starting with the release of “Watchmen Director’s Cut.”
The studio partnership with the social network Web site will use the BD-Live interactive feature on high-def discs, allowing “Watchmen” purchasers to view the film simultaneously and share comments with their Facebook friends.
BD-Live has always allowed such “community screenings” via its “buddy list” function. But those lists now can be synched with Facebook’s friend networks for immediate access to a broad network of acquaintances.
The 2-Disc version is the 3 hour version Director’s Cut with 25 more minutes of footage! But before you rush out to pre-order it, it seems like there will be an “Ultimate Cut” that will incorporate the Black Freighter animation that was sold seperately pushing the runtime of Watchmen to 3 1/2 hours. ICV2 says this version may come out as early as this Fall, but most likely in time for Christmas shoppers.
Whether you saw her in The Heartbreak Kid, 27 Dresses (you saw that with your girlfriend, right?) or this month in the incredible film Watchmen, Malin Akerman has proven herself to be more than just the new Cameron Diaz.
The 30-year old actress was born in Sweden but raised in Canada, she started a modeling career at 17 which led to movies and TV shows. You might remember seeing her first in Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle as the Freakshow’s wife, but her big break was opposite Ben Stiller in The Heartbreak Kid, which if it was a good movie might have sent her career upwards faster.
No doubt she pulls off a great feat of bringing the second Silk Spectre to life in Watchmen and her plate is full with new movies with A-listers like Vince Vaughn, Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock. A set of sexy pix of Malin below. if you haven’t seen it yet, try and get to the cinema this weekend and check out Watchmen.
